“Tolkien Transactions” at the Tolkien Society (Friday Feature)

Resources for Tolkienites are legion these days, but key among them is the Tolkien Society. Besides a Tolkien biography, there is also an event page with CFPs and conference announcements, as well as publications like Mallorn and Amon Hen. Membership gives a number of privileges, including access to the archives.

One of the cool parts of the website is the monthly feature, “Tolkien Transactions” by Troels Forchhammer. This is an amazing list of Tolkienish blogs, events, conferences, book announcements, artwork, and academic work. I have been pleased to have my blog noted a couple of times before, but Forchhammer was kind enough to add a personal note to a recent post.

Make sure you check out the Society page, and stay tuned for Tolkien celebrations of his 125th birthday next week.

About Brenton Dickieson

“A Pilgrim in Narnia” is a blog project in reading and talking about the work of C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, the Inklings, L.M. Montgomery, and the worlds they created. As a "Faith, Fantasy, and Fiction" blog, we cover topics like children’s literature, myths and mythology, fantasy, science fiction, speculative fiction, poetry, theology, cultural criticism, art and writing. This blog includes my thoughts as I read through my favourite writings and reflect on my own life and culture. In this sense, I am a Pilgrim in Narnia--or Middle Earth, or Fairyland, or Avonlea. I am often peeking inside of wardrobes, looking for magic bricks in urban alleys, or rooting through yard sale boxes for old rings. If something here captures your imagination, leave a comment, “like” a post, share with your friends, or sign up to receive Narnian Pilgrim posts in your email box. Brenton Dickieson (PhD, Chester) is a father, husband, friend, university lecturer, and freelance writer from Prince Edward Island, Canada. 1. David Llewellyn Dodds says:

    Very nice – thanks!

I was a member for a while in the 1970s, got to know my future wife when she was in Oxford but had not booked for the Oxonmoot (not knowing till it was too late if she could get off work for it), and have started to get acquainted with the site this past year – with regular recourse to Michael Flowers’s Timeline – but had not somehow not yet encountered Troels Forchhammer’s Transactions!

  3. Lest we turn it into a ping-pong of “thank you for thank you” bloggings, I’ll just say it here 🙂

Your kind words are much appreciated, thank you! And yes, the blogs on the Tolkien Society page really are very good.

    • Thanks so much Troels. The work of cataloguers is often unrecognized. l appreciate it.
There is, of course, waaay too much good stuff to possibly read it all (not even including the not so good stuff).
